%X The error correcting method using RS code and Trellis Code Modulation (TCM) is applied to the optical PPM communication system.A new error correcting strategy combining both RS and TCM is proposed.In this method,RS code is as an external code and TCM as an inner code,thus a new cascade code is formed.This new technique can improve the traditional RS+PPM optical communication system performance in time-varied band-limited optical channel without decreasing the effective communication speed rate.Correlative numerical simulation was implemented,and the results show that the combination of RS and TCM codes can enhance optical PPM communication performance assuringly.
