%X The inhibition behavior of AMT(2 amino 5 mercapto 1,3,4 thiadiazole) in the carbon steel/5%HCl system was studied by polarization curve,weight loss and EIS. It was found that AMT acted as a mix type inhibitor and its inhibiting on effect was due to the geometrically covering. The adsorption of AMT on the electrode surface could be described by Langmuir adsorption, and its adsorption heat was about 27.10 kJ/mol. The EIS of the system with and without AMT exhibited only one time constant, but when cathodically polarized, it showed another capacitive reactance at low frequences due to adsorption.
