%X The corrosion results of 14 kinds of cables, including conventionval cable and optical cable and some relevant materials buried in different soils for 1-3 years at 7 sites in China are summerized. The corrosion Performance of cable jacket materials was characterized. The main factors (oxygen, soluble salts and microbiology in soil) affecting corrosion of metal cable sheaths (lead, aluminium and painted steel strip) were also analysed.
