%X It is necessary to prevent the steel from remarkable general corrosion during pickling simultaneously, Hydrogen Induced Cracking(HIC), caused by the permeation of hydrogen atoms into the steel structure, should be particularly avoided. In practice, there are some methods for inspection of the HIC susceptibility, e.g., pressure hydrogen probe, hydrogen patch probe, hydrogen barnacle probe, etc. But all of them have many drawbacks, e.g., cumbersome, fairly long response time and lower signal output, etc. Their greatest drawback is that the measured parameters are not connected with the HIC susceptibility of steel,so it is impossible to evaluate and determine directly the hazard level of HIC.In this paper, the relationship between the measured signals(hydrogen permeation current, I) of a new kind of electrochemical hydrogen sensor and the strength/embrittlement of A3 steel defined by SSRT and SEM analysis in the acid solutions is studied. The critical parameters and criteria of HIC of A3 steel taking place in hydrochloric acid solutions are given as follows:(?)The basic parameters above-mentioned can be served for software design of a new intelligent probe technique for in-situ inspection of the HIC susceptibility of the steel in pickling.
