%X The electrochemical corrosion behavior of plain carbon steel in two-phase medium with coal and water was studied with mass loss measurements and electrochemical polarization tests. The results show that the corrosion of steel in the two phase medium is not like that in a uniform solution of water or that contacted with block coal. The corroded surface of steel looks like uniform corrosion, however, it actually is pits corrosion in the begining. The corrosion rate is related to the character and size of solid phase although the electrochemical process of steel does not change in the two phase medium. The corrosive solid phase (such as coal with higher degree of coalification)in the medium obviously increases the corrosion rate of steel. The corrosion mechanism of steel in the two phase medium was also discussed.
