%X The West to East Gas Pipeline Project (WEGPP) is a great one, which transports gas from Tarim Basin and Erdos Basin to East China through pipeline. It passes Xinjiang, Gangsu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, to Shanghai. The pipeline is installed over Gobi, desert, loess hill, mountain area, river′s net and big rivers, with complex engineering geology and constructive difficulty met rarely over the world. The whole length of the pipeline is about 3 900km. The designed annual throughput is 120×10 8m 3, with designed operational pressure 10MPa. The pipes are made of X70 armor plate, with nominal diameter 1 016mm. Over the pipeline, there are 10 compressor stations. The Supervision Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) System acquires data, supervises, controls and disposes the gas transmission over the pipeline. The project′s construction is divided into two phases. Until beginning of 2004, at the 1st phase of the project, the gas will be transmitted from Jingbian to Shanghai through built pipeline. The gas will ignite the market demand. Until beginning of 2005, the 2nd phase of the project will be completed and the pipeline from Luntai to Jingbian will be finished. After the whole pipeline is installed, the Tarim gas field will alone supply whole throughput. For many aspects, the constructive difficulty and technical problem in WEGPP are the biggest challenge over China. For oil and gas pipeline in China, its length is the longest, the pipe′s diameter is the biggest, the pressure is the highest, and the pipeline made of X70 is applied first at China. Overcoming technical difficulty, the longitudinal welded pipes with high strength, big diameter and of high grade is first made in China. The constructive demand is satisfied through deeply studying geological, hydraulic, engineering, environment and geologic calamity along the pipeline and resolving difficulties in crossing big rivers and in tunnel through mountains. The constructive quality is assured with regular management and supervision system over the pipeline.
