%X N 2O is the third leading greenhouse gas, next to CO 2 and CH 4, in contribution to global warming. Till now, large uncertainties still exist in the global budget of sources and sinks of N 2O, and possible there are certain important sources of N 2O unknown. In this paper, major results obtained by authors and their colleagues over more than 10 years were reported. The results showed that emission of N 2O by plant is a universal phenomenon in nature, and its flux can be comparable with that from soil, hence plant may be an unknown important source of the atmospheric N 2O. N 2O emission by plant is controlled by species and growing stages of plants, nutrient supply, illumination and CO 2 concentration. In this paper, also, the light regulation model of N 2O emission by plant was presented, and the influence of N 2O emission by plant on global, especially on terrestrial ecosystem budget of N 2O was discussed.
