%X This paper discusses in detail the principles and methods for the design,management,and economic appraisal of contour hedgerow projects.The authors claim that functions of the designed hedgerow should be constrained to avoid contradictions between its ecological and direct economic benefits,hedge plant properties should be emphasized in species selection,the major Purposes of hedgerow management are to promote hedge formation and to minimize negative effects of hedgerow on field crops,a cost/benefit analysis Is appropriate for both ecological and economic assessments of contour hedgerow projects.
