Both wild and cultured abaloncs were used in this study. The branchiae and gonads were dissected out from the animals and chromosome slides were made. We examined the prepared slide under microscope and chose the cells with well-scattered metaphasc chromosomes photographed. Then we selected ten cells with clear contrast and projected onto paper with the aid of slide projector. The diploid chromosome number was found to be 36 and the total number of chromosomal arms (NF) to be 72 All the chromosomes could be matched into 18 pairs, divided into two groups :11 pairs of mtacentric chromosomes, they are Nos. 1, 3, 6, 7, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16 and 17, and 7 pairs of submetacentric chromosomes, they are Nos. 2, 4, 5, 8, 15, and 18. The chromosomes were arranged from the longest to the shortest (see Fig. 2). The longest pair of chromosomes is the first pair, the relative length being 7.09; the shortest is the eighteenth one, the relative length being 4:11. Total length of chromosomes in monoploid is 687.05. %K Haliotis discus hannai Ino %K Chromosome %K Karyotyoe
