%X The principles and methods of cladistics are first applied to the study of the phylogenetic relationships within the genus Anabarilius. A detailed comparison was made between characters of Anabarilius as one side and Hemiculterella, Pseudohemiculter and Hemiculter as the other side. There are five synapomorphies in Anabarilius so that it is a monophyly. Hemiculterella sauvagei is considered as the out-group of Anabarilius for comparion, as H. sauvagei is closely related to and is more primitive than Anabarilius. Based on analysis of thirty-eight characters, the phylogenetic cladogram of Anabarilius is constructed. It is proposed that the dichotomy of the first sister group is correlated with the separation of Jin-sha and Nan-pan drainages. Nan-pan clade of the first sister group contains more plesiomorphies than Jin-sha clade and vice versa the case of apomorphies. Consequently Anabarilius is probably originated from the area of Nan-pan drainage, i. e. the eastern Yunnan of China.
