%X As a new genus of diatom, Aneumastus was first defined by D.G. Mann and A. J. Stickle in 1992. Five representatives of Aneumastus were discovered by the authors in the Late Pleistocene and Holocene diatomites in Hexigten Banner of Inner Mongolia. With the technique of Light Microscopy (LM) and Confocal Laser Scanning Microsystem (CLSM), the specimens were studied for the characteristics of valve and structure. Aneumastus in-cludes 2 species and 3 forms A. tusculoides (Cl.-Eu.) Mann, A. tusculus (Ehr.) Mann, A. tusculus f. angulat (Cl.-Eul.) Li.( f. n. comb.), A. tusculus f. minor (Hust.) Li (f. n. comb.), A. tusculus f. rostrata (Hust.) Li (f. n. comb.). The distribution of the species and the variety forms in the strata are detailed described in the paper. This discovery is especially important for the paleo-ecological study of ancient lacustrine sediments in the area, and the authors hold that the evolution of the species of Aneumastus is of stratigraphic significance, and hence the further study of the genus Aneumastus is necessary.
