%X For comparative study of SO2 in Chongqing area , measurements of SO2 were conducted simultaneously at Guanyinqiao in the suburb of Chongqing City , and at Simianshan, a mountainous region 90km south to the chongqing city during September 1987. The measured results indicate that: 1 . In sunny days diurnal variation of SO2 concentration at Simianshan is a three-mode curve, while at Guanyingqiao is a two-mode curve; 2. In rainy days SO2 in the city is greatly washed out by precipitation while at Simian shan SO2 is completedly washed out with the concentation remaining at 0 ppb; 3 . During the measurements, the concentration of SO2 during night at Simianshan is 0 ppb or so and the average concentration is 2 ppb, while in the city the average concentration is 120 ppb or so , which is 60 times as much as that in the mountainous area .
