%X The ENSO (El Nino/Southern Oscillation) is the most prominent phenomenon of interannu-al variability in the tropical Pacific ocean-atmosphere system, which has great impacts on global climate changes and human activities. The mechanism for ENSO and its prediction are the main topics to be ad-dressed in many climate research programs. In this paper, a review is presented on the progresses in these studies achieved in the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP), Chinese Academy of Sciences in the past decade.
