吴国雄 %A 刘屹岷 %A 宇婧婧 %A 竺夏英 %A 任荣彩 %J 大气科学 %D 2008 %I %X The progress in the dynamical study of the formation and variation of the subtropical anticyclone during the past decade is reviewed.The connotation of the subtropical LOSECOD quadruplet heating in summertime is stressed.The modulation of land-sea distribution on the air-sea interaction is then investigated and used to interpret the formation of the heating quadruplet.The contributions of the mosaic of the LOSECOD quadruplet heating to the formation and configuration of the summertime subtropical anticyclone are further explored.The recent progresses in the dynamical study of the short-and medium-range variations of the subtropical anticyclone are also reviewed briefly.A spatial pattern of the distribution of the subtropical anticyclone,which is in favor of the occurrence of the persistent heavy rainfall along the Yangtze-Huaihe valleys,is presented based on a series of case studies.It is shown that the propagations of vorticity perturbations along easterlies in low latitudes and along westerlies in middle latitudes and their barotropic development result in the variation of the subtropical anticyclone and the occurrence of heavy summer rainfall over East China.It is reported that the strong diabatic heating over the Tibetan Plateau in summer can excite the zonal asymmetric instability,leading to the appearance of bimodality of the South Asia high-its "eastern mode" and "western mode",and a quasi-biweekly oscillation of the circulation between the two modes.It is also reported that the strong convective rainfall in low latitudes in early summer,such as those due to the development of typhoon,can trigger the zonal asymmetric instability as well,resulting in the anomaly of the subtropical anticyclone over the northwestern Pacific and affecting the persistent rainfall along the Huaihe River valley. %K modulation of land-sea distribution %K air-sea interaction %K subtropical anticyclone
