%X The conditions for four lower modes existing in an insular dielectric waveguide are given. The parameters which affect the propagation properties Of the insular dielectric waveguide are selected optimally by the improved Orthogonal Array Table (OAT). Then a set of parameters for obtaining wider single mode bandwidth, lower conductor and dielectric loss, and small outer field dispersion is given. The single mode bandwidth of insular dielectric waveguide is compared with that of image waveguide, and the difference is not significant.
