%X In this paper temporal and spectral effects of nonlinear optical pulse propagation are s tudied in semiconductors in nonresonance transparency regime. The possibility of designing nonlinear directional couplers empolying free-carrier nonlinear refraction effect is analyzed.The characteristics of this nonlinear directional couplers are compared with One employing Kerr effect.
