%X The relationships between the photorefractive index gating self enhancement during readout and the thickness of record crystal,the intensity ratio of reference beam to signal beam,as well as the index amplitude were investigated It is shown that to obtain grating self enhancement during readout,the thichness of record crystal should be larger than a certain value A small writing beam ratio results in large self enhancement and high diffraction efficiency The index grating amplitude recorded affects not the maxim diffraction efficiency but the increase speed of the diffraction efficiency during readout
