%X The method to measure the Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF) of selected surface materials was developed with Frequency-Modulation Spectroscopy (FMS) using a Tunable Diode Laser (TDL) under strong environmental light influence such as natural illumination and artificial light. A simulated in situ BRDF measurement experiment was demonstrated with the improved method and the BRDF of several surface materials of wall as topographic target for laser remote detection of toxic and hazardous gases was obtained on this understanding that the angle of incidence is always coincident with the angle of reflection. The samples could be fitted to a function with two parameters. These results are suitable for designing laser remote detection instrument of gas of this type.
