The ability to synthesize lignin has been essential in the evolutionary adaptation of plants from an aquatic environment to land. Whereas the lignin has negative effect on utilizing the plant resource in some areas, such as resulting in severe environmental pollution in the paper making and reducing the digestibility of silage grass. Regulating of lignin content through gene engineering plays important roles in environment protection and economy. The progress of recent research on the lignin biosynthesis is introduced. The hot area of the new progress of regulation of lignin content was presented. Meanwhile, some problems needed to research are suggested and the possible developments from now on are forecasted. %K Biosynthesis Lignin Regulation
