Based on the unusual molecular architecture and phenomenal biological activities of natural products, particularly polyketides and polypeptides, elucidation of their biosynthetic machineries will lay on the foundation of novel analogs generation by rational engineering of their biosynthetic pathways, and eventually facilitate the application of biological and chemical technology to meet the challenge of drug discovery and development in microorganisms. %K Biosynthesis Metabolic engineering Combinatorial biosynthesis
