%X The weatherabilities of ZBAY glass coated and uncoated with MgF_2 film wereinvestigated by using IRTS,IRRS,SEM and EDAX,comparing the corrosion resulting fromweathering with that resulting from water solution,Experimental results found that their cor-rosion mechanisms are different.ZBAY glasses uncoated with MgF_2 film were corroded seri-ously under the weathering conditions,which adversely affected their optical,mechanicaland chemical properties.It is very interesting that MgF_2 coating can improve theweatherabilities of ZBAY glases effectively.And their infrared transmission properties can betherefore protected.MgF_2 coating as one of the best coating materials can widely be used forfluoride glass,especially for fluoride glass fiber.
