%X Acoustic emission (AE) study on SiC/Al model composite which made the fracture sources simple has been carried out. AE characteristics from fracture sources have been measured. Three kinds of fracture in SiC/Al, fiber fracture, fracture of interface between fiber and matrix and matrix fracture have been recognized and distinguished by AE characteristics. A model proposed based on AE data and metallurgical examination explains the reason of why fracture sources have different AE behaviours.
