%X The features of high performance ceramics and its importance in the scien-tific technique and economic constructions were described.The applications and prospectof the structural ceramics in the fields of engine components,wear parts,heat exchanger,coatings and medical products were introduced emphatically.And ceramic matrix compo-sites were considered to be the most promising for light and high temperature resistance.Atthe same time,some new technologies which will enable production of the ceramics and ce-ramic composites with improved properties and in some cases,at less expense were pres-ented and stressed.Finally,it was point out that several research fields must be paid greatattention to in future.
