%X The concept of fractal and some applications of fractal in materials researchare described.Regular fractals are discussed first,followed by irregular fractals in naturaland physical phenomena.Different methods of determining fractal dimensions are given.Examples of application include:the kinetic growth of pyrogenic SiO_2 aggregates,phasetransformation in ion beam mixed thin films and fractured surface of tempered steels.
