%X Quasicrystals are a special group of Hume-Rothery phases with strong Fermi Surface-Brillouin Zone interaction. The research along this direction is extensively carried out to understand their various specific behaviors. With respect to this, the present paper reviews some recent developments in the formation and property investigation of quasicrystalline materials. The author's work on phase transformation, phase diagram and Humer-Rothery rule is also integrated. This paper is organized as follows. The first part synthesizes some general concepts concerned. The second part deals with the formation mechanism of quasicrystals from the view point of phase transition and phase diagram, with emphasis laid on the Hume-Rothery rule. The next section reviews property features, mainly focused on thermal and electrical conduction properties and mechanical peculiarities. As conclusions, the last part briefly reports the research trend and application potential of this kind of material.
