%X This paper deals with the surface apparent process of plasma carburizing.The steel 20 and T12 were used.The carburizing gas was the mixture vapors of methanoland ethanol.The results show that the atmosphere of plasma carburezing is the importantfactor which influences the carburizing process.The higher carbon content atmosphere willform the carburized layer in a short time,and the less one needs a long time,and when thecarbon content is very less it will form a decarburized layer.It is observed that under a cer-tain condition the carburizing process first takes place in some little areas though the glowdischarge covers all over the surface of sample,then the amounts of little areas increase andgrow in size and in the end form the carburized layer.The successive photograph recordsare used to show the surface apparent process.
