PEG (Polyethylene glycol) was used in order to mimic drought stress, and the method of preparing ultrastructural slides for stomatal observation was improved. The main results were as follows: 1) the quantity of chloroplasts in guard cells increased, but the quantity of starch grains in a chloroplast decreased with increased PEG treatment time; 2) the quantity of mitochondrion in a guard cell decreased and the structure of mitochondrion was severely damaged when treated with PEG; 3) PEG stress made the vacuoles of the guard cells of Malus hupehensis become smaller or unobvious. %K Polyethylene glycol %K Malus hupehensis %K Stomata apparatus %K Ultrastructure
