%X It was investigated for the responses of morphology and growth of Artemisia ordosica Krasch., Salix psammophila C. Wang et Ch. Y. Yang, Hedysarum mongolicum Turcz., and Caragana intermedia Kuang et H.C.Fu, four dominant plants in Maowusu sandland, to simulated precipitation change by artificially controlling four water supply levels. The results showed that different water supplies significantly affected the branching pattern, leaf characters, biomass and their distribution of the four plants, and there were obviously differences in the effects of different water supplies on those characteristics among the four plants. In 157.5-630.0 mm water supplies, there were positive effects of increasing water supplies on morphology of branch and leaf and biomass of S. psammophila, H. mongolicum and A. ordosica, but the passive effects on the growth of C. intermedia treated by 157.5 mm and 630.0 mm water supplies. In addition, the root/shoot biomass weight gradually decreased with the increase of water supplies for S. psammophila, H. mongolicum, and C .intermedia, but there was not significant difference in the root/shoot biomass weight compared with A. ordosica treated by the four water supplies.
