%X Ultrastructures of spermatozoon tail in the rice water weevil,Lissorhoptrus oryzophilus, were observed via transmission electron microscopy at selected sperm developmental stages with the aim at clarifying spermiogenesis in this weevil. The flagellum interior is composed of two mitochondrial derivatives, two accessory bodies, one centriole adjunct and one microtubule system(axoneme). The axoneme consists of nine accessory microtubules, nine peripheral doublets of microtubules and two central microtubules, displaying a typical 9 9 2 pattern. The two mitochondrial derivatives have different shapes and contents during the spermiogenesis. The centriole adjunct occurs late, and the microtubules surrounding mitochondrial derivatives, accessory bodies and centriole adjunct disappear in late spermiogenesis stages. In conclusion,L.oryzophilus has a similar spermiogenesis with several other coleopterans reported, meanwhile it possesses some specifity in terms of the occurrence of mitochondrial derivatives, centriole adjunct and microtubules.
