%X Napoleon was a ruler of strong political personality. The formation of this complicated self-contradicting personality was not only related to his natural temperament and childhood experience, but also to the swiftly shifting political situation of the French Revolution and his role in politics. His political personality had a twofold influence on France and its Revolution: On the one hand, he was a successor of the Revolution in that he inherited and promoted the revolutionary ideals and principles; while on the other, he became a convict condemned for betraying the Revolution to the European feudalism.
