%X The "big country" consciousness and the cultural superiority complex are the high cultural motives of China to join contemporary international organizations. But China's attitude toward and evaluation of the existing international setup and international system in accordance with its ethical and cultural tradition reflect its plentiful lack of theories. Even the theories it has are less sound and less convincing in interpreting such relationships as "power and equality", "duty and rank", "cooperation and intercommunity", and "conflict and intervention". To demonstrate the modern advantages of its culture worldwide, therefore, China must break through the constraint of its conventional thinking and participate theory-consciously in the construction of the new international system.
