%X The steps taken by the author to trace the population movements during the post-Ming times, are focused on the chaoscaused by wars, population lost, and then emigration waves. An emphasis is placed on seeking to know the number of emigrants andthe scope of the movements. A picture of population movements during the 600 years post-Ming period is presented. This is really abig project. More praiseworthy of this book is that it demonstrates a normative scholarly work to us: scholarly research is a process ofcriticism, inheritance, and accumulation. "Research" not abiding by this criterion is worthless.
