%X There has long been a debated argument since the Southern Song Dynasty over the existence of Sun Wu, the master of the art of war the Spring and Autumn period, an argument which is centered on the fact that Sun Wu was somehow never mentioned in his contemporary historical record of Zuo Zhuan. This study offers a new argument that Sun Wu was exactly a well known historical figure: General Tian Kai of Qi, the record of whom can be readily found and recogonized in Zuo Zhuan. The argument is based on a careful study of classical historical records and a newly discovered Sun Family Genealogy. This study provides a new understanding and a valid historical perspective of The Art of war by Sun Wu.
