%X The plain of west Shandong province is located at the end of the Yellow River flood-plain. It often suffers from multiple disasters of drought, waterlogging and salt or alkali This paper analyses the formation, quality and dynamic features of the shallow brackish wa ter. The quality and quantity of water are evaluated. The probability of exploiting, the brackish water and the irrigation benefit are disscussed. There is no doubt that exploiting the shallow brackish water in agriculture will be of gre at significance to expanding the ground water resource and promoting the well circulation of water and soil environments in the Plain.
