It grows vigorously but does not bear fruit. It can be propagated asexually only by bulb. Its karyotype was studied The chromosome number in its somatic cells is 2n=24, which contains three complete sets of chromosomes and is a triploid. The karyotype is 2n = 3x = 24 = 21m +3st. The genome constitution of the triploid is very similar to that of widely cultivated tetraploid.
