Vindoline content was compared by correlation and path coefficients with 12 major gronomic traits of the varieties. Vindoline content showed a positive correlation with leaf width, plant height, whole-plant leaf weight, 100-leaf weight, petal diameter and leaf length; the positive correlation was significant for first lateral branch number and stem diameter (P<0.05) and notable for internodal distance. Vindoline content showed a negative correlation with ratio of leaf length to width, seed pod length and seed number per pod. Path analysis showed internodal distance,first lateral branch number and whole-plant leaf weight with a significant positive effect on vindoline content (P<0.05), with path coefficients of 0.959, 0.716 and 0.431 respectively, which suggests that internodal distance, first lateral branch number and whole-plant leaf weight are the important factors in breeding C. roseus with high vindoline content. %K
