%X Aquaporins are integral membrane proteins occurring in mammals, plants, and microorganisms, which serve as channels that permit the bidirectional passage of water through cellular membranes. Higher plants contain abundant aquaporins in both plasma membrane and tonoplast. The activity of plant aquaporins is regulated at two levels which are genetic expression control and post-translation modification such as reversible phosphorylation of aquaporins.
