%X This review is about the effects of biodiversity on ecosystem functions and services. It focuses on the following parts: 1. hypotheses about different roles of different species in the ecosystem and how biodiversity affects ecosystem functions; 2. relations between biodiversity and stability of ecosystem; 3. how the biodiversity affects production of ecosystem; 4. the relation between biodiversity and sustainability of the ecosystem. Several problems for further research are also pointed out.
