%X The effect of melatonin on the activity of arginine decarboxylase and cell viability was examined in tobacco suspension cells during cold stress. Melatonin could increase the activity of arginine decarboxylase and decrease the rate of cell death. Melatonin could enhance the resistance to chilling injury by regulating the synthesis of polyamine in plant cells.
