%X A new type tunneling system, Collimated Abrasive Water Jet(CAWJ) cutter, is develped to increase the tunneling speed and improve the cutting quality in hard rock. And its characteristics of configuration and operating principle are discussed. The effects of cutting hard rock with various operating parameters on the cutting efficiency of CAWJ are analyzed. Research results show that it is primarily feasible for tunneling hard rock with CAWJ.
