%X A model of transversely isotropic elastic strata is used to simulate the soil layers situated on a half space. The dynamic stiffness matrix of the strata and the formula to evaluate their response to incident SH waves are derived. The response of strata with extremely soft soil layer is calculated. The results show that there are evident differences between the response Fourier spectra of strata with extremely soft soil layer and normal strata, and the former does not always decrease the reseponses of strata, at some frequencies the responses even exceed that of the latter. More attention should be paid to these phenomena.
