%X The stresses and deformations of rocks during tunnel excavation are predicted using an ANN approach based on results of FEM simulation. The algorithm of the BP network technique is improved appropriately. Several new improving methods are developed and lead to good results. The approach proposed in this paper can obtain more accurate and more suitable results for practical applications.
