%X Based on the heterogeneous characteristics of rock at mesoscopic level, the constitutive law of mesoscopic elements used in RFPA2D is described with elastic damage mechanics. The RFPA2D is used to simulate the strength and failure patterns of rock specimen subjected to uniaxial or biaxial loading. The numerical results are compared well with the corresponding experimental results, which proves that the constitutive law as well as the numerical system (RFPA2D) are reasonable and effective in simulating the failure of rock under various plane stress conditions.
