%X Based on the abutment pressure distribution around a coal face, a simple damage mechanics model is used to discuss the distribution pattern of abutment pressure under the condition of confined deformation. It is not needed to zone the range of the abutment pressure (limited equilibrium zone and elastic deformation zone) with this model. The theoretical results are agreeable with the experimental results. Finally, some factors to affect the distribution pattern of the abutment pressure are discussed, such as the strength and thickness of coal, in situ stress.
