%X The cave strata at Mogao grottoes are divided into four engineering geological groups and their physical and mechanical properties are tested. The feature of structure surface of surrounding rocks of the caves are also investigated and tested with elastic wave. The result indicates that the cave strata are of the engineering properties so that the strata could be dug by hand work and their stability kept by themselves.
