%X The thesis based on the experimental system which the Single Chinese Character Retrieval was used in FOXPRO. Through the self-designed experimental system, we could find out the retrieval effiency of news database between the automatic indexing and free indexing and analyse the influence relationship of the two index ways. So it was continued for studying the possibility of the automatic indexing instead of the free indexing. Last, the improving suggestion and the principles of the experiment were proposed.
