%X Efforts of TREC on the performance evaluation for IRS and its roles in promoting the development of new information retrieval technology are described, with a summary of facets and new features to show a variety of new types of IRSs. Graphs are cited to compare performance evaluation criterions for a number of commercially available full text IRSs. A framework of performance evaluation is suggested for Chinese full text information retrieval systems based on selected criterions peculiar to Chinese information processing environment.
