%X Studies of a variety of higher cognitive functions consistently activate a region of anterior cingulate cortex(ACC). ACC may play a key role in cognitive control. Although commonly hold that ACC is a part of the network involved in the regulation of mental activity, there isn't a comprehensive theory about the function of the ACC. Conflict monitoring theory is a very influential theory about the function of the ACC. Anterior cingulate cortex signal the occurrence of conflicts in information processing, thereby triggering compensatory adjustments in cognitive control. Since the idea was first proposed, a great deal of relevant empirical research has accrued. Here we gave a review of the conflict monitoring theory.
