%X The growing process of AIN crystal in directed nitridation of molten aluminium alloys was investigated. The growing characters of AIN crystals were obtained through XRD and SEM. A new mechanism of vapour-liquid-solid-solid (VLSS) was proposed, and its similarity and difference from the traditional vapour-liquid-solid (VLS) mechanism were discussed. The emphasis was placed on the prerequisites and realization process of VLSS mechanism.
