Both the analysis and the practical band gap calculation for an exemplary two-dimensional case have shown that, as compared with the conventional plane wave method, the group theory based improved algorithm can substantially release memory-space requirement and reduce computational time. %K group theory %K photonic crystal %K photonic band gap %K plane wave expansion
